The FX Aegis Edu is the teaching and research edition of Faraday Future's Aegis robot dog. It keeps the Aegis Pro's 15 kg, 12-joint body and adds what the Pro leaves out: SDK access, standardised robot APIs, Isaac Sim simulation support and a set of expansion ports, so the robot becomes something students and researchers program rather than only operate.
Programming works at three levels. Python development through the SDK suits university labs and developers; a basic visual programming platform suits first-time learners; and the Openclaw no-code tool lets a class build and run skills without writing code. Ethernet, USB, SBUS and UART ports connect additional sensors, radios or custom payloads.
The hardware is ready for lab floors and campus paths: a top speed of 3.7 m/s, 16 cm stair climbing, 35 cm obstacle clearance, 30° slopes and 48 N·m of peak joint torque, with a payload of up to 8 kg. The 216 Wh battery runs for 1–2 hours, charges in about an hour and swaps out between sessions. A 4K wide-angle camera and an IMU cover vision and balance, and the IP32 rating suits indoor and dry outdoor use.
Be clear about what the robot does today. It arrives with more than ten preloaded motions and built-in AI features, so a class can start before any code is written, but autonomous navigation and environment scanning are still in development and planned as over-the-air updates.
Key Capabilities
-
SDK and standardised robot APIs: Students and researchers write their own behaviours in Python against the full FX development stack.
-
Simulate before you deploy: Isaac Sim support lets gaits and tasks be tested in simulation before they run on the robot.
-
Three ways to program: Python for advanced users, a basic visual programming platform for beginners and the Openclaw no-code tool for quick skill building.
-
Open expansion ports: Ethernet, USB, SBUS and UART connect extra sensors, radios and custom payloads to the body.
-
Lab-ready mobility: Twelve joints move the 15 kg body at up to 3.7 m/s, over 16 cm steps and 35 cm obstacles.
-
Usable on day one: More than ten preloaded motions, live 4K video and OTA updates let a class work with the robot before writing any code.
-
Autonomy on the roadmap: Autonomous navigation and environment scanning are in development and planned as OTA updates, not current features.
